The Malabar Dining Chair brings the relaxed character of plantation-style furniture into the dining room, pairing a solid timber frame with hand-worked rattan and a softly cushioned seat. The woven back and arms create texture and visual warmth, while the darker timber gives the chair a grounded, substantial presence. A fabric-covered foam seat adds everyday comfort without taking away from the natural character of the piece. It is a chair designed to feel settled and familiar — particularly well suited to timber dining tables, lodge-inspired interiors and homes that favour natural materials over passing trends.

Key Features

Solid timber construction — provides a strong, dependable frame with the weight and presence expected of enduring dining furniture.
Woven rattan detailing — adds natural texture, ventilation and the relaxed character associated with traditional plantation furniture.
Cushioned fabric seat — a foam-filled seat offers greater comfort for longer meals while softening the look of the timber and rattan construction.

Why This Piece Endures

Distinctive without being overstated — the combination of timber and woven rattan gives the Malabar character while remaining easy to live with over time.
Well suited to warm, natural interiors — works particularly well with solid timber dining tables, linen, aged leather, stone and other tactile materials.
A comfortable dining-room scale — the supportive arms, shaped back and upholstered seat give it the feel of a substantial dining chair rather than a lightweight occasional piece.

Frequent Queries

Will the timber and rattan vary between chairs?
Yes. Timber and rattan are natural materials, so subtle variations in grain, tone and weave are to be expected. These differences contribute to the individual character of each chair.

How should I care for the rattan?
Dust regularly with a soft cloth or brush attachment and avoid saturating the weave with water. Keeping the chair away from prolonged direct sunlight and excessive moisture will help preserve the natural fibres.

Is the Malabar suitable for everyday dining?
Yes. Its solid timber frame, supportive woven back and cushioned seat make it well suited to regular use. As with all natural rattan furniture, sensible care will help keep the weave looking its best over the years.
